Springtime Community Floral Collaboration
You may have seen the floral displays that start to spring to life across Clay Cross Parish at this time of year. Most of these are funded by Clay Cross Parish Council and are planted and maintained for us by local firm, Woolley Moor Nurseries. Woolley Moor Nurseries are a small, local, independent, family business run by Joe Mansfield.
This week Joe has installed two beautiful new planters at the front of Clay Cross Social Centre and the Parish Council Office. Joe donated these planters and the plants at his own expense and worked in collaboration with Parish Council Chair Cllr Brian Wright, Vice Chair Cllr Ted Mansbridge, and some young learners from Clay Cross Adult Education Centre's Study Programme to fill and plant them up, providing positive hands-on learning in synergy with the Parish Council and local community. We look forward to watching them bloom!
Joe believes in giving something back to the local community and loves to inspire a new generation of positive and caring people. He donated his time to work with these young people who want to learn and to get involved in doing something good for their local environment and the community. The planters are filled with many bee and insect friendly plants which help support a healthier local environment and benefit local wildlife. Joe has also pledged to work with the Study Programme again over the Summer on a 'learning garden' project they have planned.
Joe said "Horticulture is inclusive… it doesn't matter your background or social status. We can all get outside, pick up a spade and do some good. These young adults are a prime example of that!"
This collaborative and inclusive approach goes to show the added benefit of working with a small family business and spending money within the local economy. Supporting local small businesses should be a priority, as it is often those small local businesses who can give something back to the local community.
If you are looking to do some work in your own garden or allotment now that Spring has arrived, why not visit Woolley Moor Nurseries and see how they can help you.
