Clay Cross Parish Council is made up of 11 local people elected by the democratic electoral process and a Clerk of the Council. Clay Cross Parish Council meetings are normally held on the fourth Tuesday in the month, with the exception of March and August. All meetings are held in the Parish Council office at the rear of Clay Cross Social Centre, Market Street and the meetings begin at 7pm prompt. All meetings are open to the public. Public Participation is at the start of the meeting, a period of no more than 10 minutes is available to ask questions or submit comments. Chair of the Council, Councillor Gerry Morley Clay Cross Parish Council has various sub-committees to discuss in detail the management of the Parish Council and these are held as and when required. However, there is a Finance Sub-Committee which meets on the Wednesday prior to a Parish Council meeting. All Parish Councillors have other duties and sit on various outside bodies and committees, namely Neighbourhood Partnership, Clay Cross Town Centre Group, School Governing Bodies, Darby & Joan Clubs, Tenant & Resident Associations, Clay Cross Angling Association, Citizens Advice Bureau, local Trusts set up to help people in need and other committees as and when required. Clay Cross Parish Council works closely with North East Derbyshire District Council by using their expertise and advice where required. Clay Cross Parish Council hold Parish and District Councillors Surgeries on the last Saturday of the month, every three months. All Surgeries are held in the Parish Council office between 10.45am to 11.45am. No appointment is necessary. Your Councillors will be pleased to deal with any queries or help with any problems. Responsibilities and Amenities: management of Clay Cross Social Centre, management of Clay Cross Cemetery, childrens play areas, Kenning Park, Meadow Farm Fishing Pond, allotments, bus shelters, roadside seating, public conveniences, litter/dog fouling bins, the Coronation Clock and the Adult Education Centre clock. Services: litter collection. We employ a General Assistant, who covers the majority of the Parish in litter collection. However, we do not collect litter from private land or bulk/household waste. In addition to a General Assistant, Clay Cross Parish Council employ a Clerk of the Council, Cemetery Superintendent, Cemetery Assistant, Caretakers/Cleaners for Clay Cross Social Centre.
